The terms you meet when buying land, getting permits and building, in plain language.
- UTM planنقشه UTM
- A plan that records the corners of a property in the global Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system. It defines the boundary uniquely and is the basis for issuing a single-sheet title deed.
- Single-sheet title deedسند تکبرگ
- The cadastral ownership deed that replaced the old booklet deeds in Iran; the property boundary in it is recorded from a UTM plan.
- Stake-outپیادهسازی نقشه
- Transferring the grid lines and dimensions of a building plan from paper onto the ground with surveying equipment, before excavation and foundations.
- Topographic surveyنقشه توپوگرافی
- A plan showing the relief of the land with contour lines and spot heights, used for design, grading and placing buildings on sloping ground.
- Land subdivisionتفکیک زمین
- Dividing one parcel into several independent plots on a defined plan, so that each has its own access, area and boundaries.
- As-built drawingنقشه وضع موجود
- An accurate drawing of a building or plot exactly as it exists today, used for renovation, change of use, sales and official enquiries.
- Structural supervisorناظر سازه
- A civil engineer who checks that foundations, reinforcement, concrete and the building frame follow the approved drawings and the National Building Regulations, and reports the results.

- Iran's mandatory technical rules for the design, construction and supervision of buildings, with chapters on loading, foundations, concrete and steel, among others.
- Construction Engineering Organizationسازمان نظام مهندسی ساختمان
- Iran's professional body for building engineers, which organises engineers' competence for design, supervision and construction. Shahram Ahmadi is a member.
- Dehyar (village head)دهیار
- The executive manager of a village administration (dehyari), responsible for development, services and building in the village. Shahram Ahmadi is the Dehyar of Tataf.
- Village Hadi planطرح هادی روستا
- The physical development plan of a village, setting its boundary, land uses, street network and building rules; permits in the village are issued on its basis.
- Setback (buffer)حریم
- A strip along a road, river, power line or facility where building is not allowed or is restricted; it must be checked before buying land and before design.
